Drills and soil samplers

A wide range of hand drills for various depths and soil samplers are available.

Soil samplers are commonly used to obtain soil samples, more or less disturbed depending on the type, at or near the surface or to dig holes with diameters between 1 and 7 inches.

AMS soil sampling equipment is used for environmental sampling and monitoring, geotechnical testing, agricultural applications, home gardens, pest control bait station installation, construction applications, and more.

The main types are:

  • AMS drills are commonly used to obtain disturbed soil samples near the surface and to drill to depths where samples can be obtained with a soil sampler.

Most AMS drills are available in stainless steel for EPA-compliant testing or with carbon steel bits and stainless steel cylinders for general soil sampling and drilling. Perfect for shallow drilling, AMS drills can also reach greater depths (the only limit is time and the user’s muscles!). Under optimal conditions, depths of 10-15 meters have been achieved using AMS drills in a variety of soil conditions!
The desired depth is reached using special extensions, connected to each other with various types of connections (3/4″ screw, 5/8″, quick-connect, pin-type, etc.).

The handles are rubberized for optimal grip. The open-gear model allows for use in both directions of rotation and optimal cleaning.

They are available in different types depending on the terrain you wish to work on: mixed and generic soils, sandy, clayey, muddy, loose, or gravelly. Reinforced drill bits are also available for situations where considerable force is required during use.
Once the hole has been drilled, the soil can then be sampled using special samplers that collect the sampled portion in special containers.

  • AMS Soil Probes are the most basic soil sampling tool for agronomists, geologists, agricultural consultants, farmers, and other soil scientists.

Like all AMS sampling equipment, AMS soil probes are rugged and easy to use. Most are used to collect small-diameter samples at or near the soil surface. They provide a quick soil profile or description and determine soil moisture content. Some sampler models allow the sample to be collected directly into a container for subsequent chemical analysis.

All AMS probes cut a core sample slightly smaller than the inside diameter of the probe body to allow for easy removal of the core from the cylinder. They are made of nickel-plated or unplated 4130 chrome molybdenum, or are all stainless steel. All probes also feature a heat-treated tip, and replaceable tips are available as an option.

  • AMS sediment and sludge samplers retain relatively undisturbed samples from non-cohesive materials, including submarine sediments in shallow lakes, streams, and various types of impoundments.

Samples can be used for sediment profiling and geotechnical analysis. Samples can also be obtained for chemical analysis, but they are not suitable for EPA Level III or IV analysis for volatile organic compounds. These samplers are primarily used for surface sediment sampling, but deeper samples can be collected from pre-drilled holes. Many of our sludge and sediment samplers can be used with or without a liner. They are also easily transportable.
